I’ve been wondering how I would work this subject into my blog.

At the time I first read The Hidden Art of Homemaking there was a long dialogue in progress discussing the issue of modesty and women’s clothing. There were a significant number of posters who equated modesty with shapeless dresses and dreary colors. Personally, I’d never given it much thought. Good thing, because I probably would have been in the “modest = frumpy” corner.

Mrs. Schaeffer quotes from Matthew in this chapter and suggest that we should look to the creation for our style ideas. In other words, God clothes His creation with a multitude of colors, patterns, and textures and we shouldn’t be afraid to use them in our clothing. How liberating!

“So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Matthew 6:28-29
