Photography

Mrs. Schaeffer does not have a chapter about photography in her book. I have no idea why and I can’t for sure say whether she would consider photography an art. I, however, DO consider it an art, albeit one that I haven’t really tried.

Barb (Harmony Art Mom) recently started a new blog: Handbook of Nature Study. My own interest in nature journaling and nature study drew me to the new blog, but what astounded me from the first visit was her beautiful nature photos! She appears to have a firm handle on one of her personal Hidden Arts and how wonderful that she’s willing to share with all of us.

Have you ever considered starting a nature journal, but were concerned about how well you draw? I know that held me back for a long time. Eventually, though, my youngest daughter (a budding naturalist) wanted to start her own journal and asked if she could take pictures of some of her treasures rather than trying to draw. As I’ve watched her over the last two years, I see that her joy from journaling with photographs is as complete as is those of folks who only draw or watercolor.

Photography can indeed fill the need for creation! Inspired by Barb and a few other bloggers, I’ve been borrowing my middle child’s camera to take the pictures for my blogs. What fun! If your fingers are just itching to pick up a camera and take pictures of strange things… DO IT! Put your pictures on your blog. Post a reply and tell us about your photography!

Thanks Elizabeth for the kind words about my nature blog. I love to take photos and use them to fill in the blanks in my nature journal.

You might want to check out my other blog http://www.homeschoolblogger.com/harmonyartmom/Photo%2Bblog/
